Punk as a political movement

dove_from_above [Edit] [Delete] 13:24, 28 September '06

I'm swaying towards the idea of doing my dissertation on something along the lines of this. I'd narrow it down to the years surrounding the birth of Thatcherism

Thing is, I don't know too much about it. So I intend to bury my head in all manner of books and theories

Does anybody know much about this? Which bands were overtly political? Which books might be useful reading? Any seminal albums of the time?

As I say, this is (at present) just an idea for my dissertation. I was also looking into doing much the same but with the UK Rave movement in the late 80s/early 90s, but I'm thinking punk would be easier to look at from a historical point of view
