Since the launch of indiestore.com more than 4,000 bands from 79 countries have signed up and are selling their own music directly. Unlike its competitors, indiestore.com enables unsigned artists and independent labels to sell tracks and albums in multiple currencies and up to MP3, WMA and AAC 192kbps high-quality formats.

The basic indiestore.com service is free to use and lets artists upload four tracks, unlimited photos and a calendar of upcoming events. In addition, artists can keep in touch with their fans via a blog on their store page.

indiestore Pro, which costs £75 a year, allows artists to upload and sell up to 20 tracks from their own download store, and following a new addition to the service, sell tracks bundled together as an album or EP. indiestore.com offers artists the most favourable terms in the industry, allowing them to keep up to 80% of the sale proceeds. Maybe I am missing something, but I thought artists could sell music viw their myspace page and keep ALL the profits. Isn't the only difference with this scheme the fact that chart positions are affected, just like the barcode guy?
