The term 'indie'...

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 21:05, 7 December '06

...is a horrible word isn't it? Its almost as vague as the term, 'pop'.

But Americans have such a different view of it to British people:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=indie

They're prattling on about Modest Mouse, The Shins, Pixies... and MUSE!

I see the Modest Mouse and Shins thing, but they just tend to completely forget the entire Britpop group of wonderfulness, and even today's 'scene'.

They also seem to think every indie fan is elitist towards other music...

...Which, lets face it, is true for some people. Especially me, I look down my little nose at a lot of music. But I can't help it. Its Americans' faults for reviving 'metal'.

But if someone says 'indie' to you, what's the first band you think of?

For me its The Strokes. But maybe that's just because they were the first of the current wave that I'm into.

(Interesting fact: I rediscovered UrbanDictionary via Sean's myspace, after being linked to the word 'Crypticism'.)

This thread is kind of trail offy. Sorry.
