I was shocked, stunned, flabberghasted and deeply disturbed to read on another thread that some people, who were recommending Beefheart albums, were casting doubts on the genius of Trout Mask Replica!!!

Let's make this very clear. One of the tests to apply to someone to see whether or not they have any real interest in good music is to ask them what they think of Trout Mask Replica. If that person is unable to reply or replies negatively then they might as well have their ears removed. To not like Trout Mask Replica is to admit that music is just a sedative to maintain one's anodyne state. To approve of Beefheart and not like Trout Mask Replica is sheer insanity.

Trout Mask Replica remains the highest point of achievement of rock music. It is unique, unsurpassed and magnificent. Those who do not like it do not know what music is nor why it exists.
