Kaisers in Newcastle

marcofella [Edit] [Delete] 10:06, 18 April '05
Went to see the Kaiser Chiefs & Nine Black Alps last night in Newcastle (I’m waiting for the backlash). I often read tons of people on DiS ripping the Kaisers to bits, so felt I had to write the following piece.

I am not ashamed to admit that I like the Kaisers. I like to keep an open mind, and listen to all kinds of musical styles. I realize that I probably won’t even be listening to their album next year. And possibly they won’t even release a second or third album. But I don’t give a shit, last night was here and now, and I wanted to have a good time! Isn’t that what some aspects of life are about? Having fun?

I could easily spend the rest of my life listening to serious stuff like Nick Cave, Tom Waits or Patrick Wolf. I mean, I do love these artists more than any other type of music. But last night I wanted to have a ‘real cool fun time’. Sure I could have a good time watching the aforementioned artists! But I wanted to have a fun party time! And by god I did!

Not that I’m trying to justify anything, but I did buy the original release of Oh My God when it was initially on sale! I have jumped on no bandwagon, and never will! And I hate the NME as much as the next person! And I also hate the way the Kaisers dress, but I don’t listen to how they dress!

The Kaisers are a fun band, and they write fun party pop tunes! They don’t take themselves serious! And they are great live!

BTW… Nine Black Alps were a little dated and bland. A couple of ok tunes, but bland all the same!
