Gig I'm promoting Tuesday - you really want to come to this

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 22:48, 30 August '07

Honestly you really do. This is honestly a really great line-up acts who you may not be familiar with but are (I think) well worth watching.

Plus if you sign up as "definitely" or "likely" coming here:

I'll stick you on the £3 list.

This is a press release what I wrote:

Thee Awkward Silences' Silent Night
September 4 2007
7:30 - 2am
Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences present another dose of noisy, chaotic offbeat fun featuring some of the most compelling and entertaining performers around.
10:20 – 10:50 - Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences
www.myspace.com/theeawkwardsilences
http://www.drownedinsound.com/bands/9559

The band gear up toward their forthcoming second album on Jezus Factory Records with a headlining slot at Silent Night. Expect offbeat post-punk, charismatic showmanship and anarchic misbehaviour backed up by brilliant pop songwriting. They're on a mission to be the best live act in Britain. They're not there yet but it won't be long...

9:40 – 10:10 - Albino
www.myspace.com/therealalbino
http://www.drownedinsound.com/bands/10507

One of Paul’s favourite bands, Albino are soon to self-release Live from Gommorah, their third album in two years. Frontman Ben Tucker combines wit and pathos to write songs that are both joyous and mournful and will make you smile until your heart breaks into thousands of pieces…

“As well as quirky humour there’s an ambition here to write something timeless and soulful”
Blang.co.uk

9 – 9:30 – The Fighting Cocks
www.myspace.com/thefightingcocks
http://www.drownedinsound.com/bands/219

Of all the acts Paul’s booked for Silent Night so far, the Fighting Cocks are probably the ones he’s mostly intrigued by. A heady mix of gypsy punk, hip-hop beats, Essex accents and Gypsy Samples, they are one of the most chaotic, eclectic and surreal bands Paul’s heard for a long, long time. They’ve supported Googol Bordello, been signed to RCA (bizarrely via the same A & R man who signed Take That) and recently made an album called Music for Lapdancers and describe themselves (quite accurately) as sounding like a “Punch-up at a Balkan Wedding”. An unmissable live experience.

8:20 – 8:50 – Jessica Delfino
www.myspace.com/jessicadelfinotunes
http://www.drownedinsound.com/bands/11935

Hilariously vulgar vaudevillian New York Chanteuse Jessica Delfino writes sexy, funny and oddly sensitive songs on subjects ranging from vaginas to oral sex and occasionally other subjects too. She’s appeared on Good Morning America, been lauded by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, supported the Tratchtenberg Family Players, been denounced by the Catholic League of America and received critical acclaim from Time Out New York, the Village Voice, High Times, the Onion and more. Whatever else, her set certainly won’t be dull…

"Let me be absolutely clear about this, without any exaggeration: If you had to pay one live human baby in exchange for a ticket to her show, it would be worth it. More than worth it. . . . The songs are written and performed by Jessica and are hilarious. They're so funny that no word exists to describe them." -The Triangle

8 – 8:15 – Niall Spooner-Harvey
www.myspace.com/spoonpoetry
http://www.drownedinsound.com/bands/11500

Newly installed as Silent Night’s resident poet, Niall Spooner-Harvey mixes satire and surrealism to brilliant effect as he muses on everything from dating adverts to anti-disability prejudice to providing an extensive and detailed list of the causes of death of every cat he’s ever owned.

Plus DJing from Ian Button (Death in Vegas) and Ehwhat (Horsebox)

Free biscuits for those who arrive before 8pm.
