I didn't realise how popular they'd got. I got there at about 8:45, and the Electric Ballroom was PACKED. And I doubt any of them were disappointed. A Hold Steady track just came on the radio, and although it sounded it okay, it utterly paled in comparison to the live version. I was expecting them to maybe come across as a bit thin, but the sound was massive. Had just the right amount of improvisation as well, and Craig Finn was one of the best frontmen I've seen in ages.
