I've been scouring eMusic for some beautiful ancient woozy jazz. sadly they don't categorise things that way and after a detour through some Sardinian throat singing, Sun Ra and Cambodian palace pop I've realised all I really want to listen to is Billie.

I love everything about her songs. The tinny 'huddled round the mic' feel of the band recordings, the sheer joy that seems to ooze from every instrument even during the most gloriously sad songs. And her voice, oh god her voice....

'Gloomy Sunday' is the current favourite - ever since I heard it used surprisingly brilliantly and respectfully on a Venetian Snares album.

Fuck 'In Rainbows' this is what I'm listening to for the rest of the evening.
