The Moulettes - Songs from St Margarets

restlessboy [Edit] [Delete] 19:03, 22 October '07

Has anyone else had the honour of listening to this record?

Amazing stuff. 4 piece all-girl strings & oboe kind of neo-classical folk stuff. Lilting, dark, jazzy, theatrical, all recorded live in a church for that wonderful intimate but spacious feel. Just got it yesterday, it's brilliant. Something with a bit of genuine class.

They're fronted by Hannah Miller who's also the singer and songwriter in Modernaire (who I may have mentioned once or twice). She's a great lyricist and I honestly can't decide if I prefer her songs with the string setting or the electro backing (some are played by both bands), which is kind of a testament to their versatility.

sadly the best song 'Requiem' isn't on there but 'Devil of Mine' is from the EP.
