What went wrong with NME?

Dynamo_Kilburn [Edit] [Delete] 13:06, 12 February '08

I stopped reading it in the early 90s when I think it was probably seen as authoritative.

Since finding love with DiS, I've read a lot about 'NME bands' (negative) and got a general sense that it's lost all credibility.

Am I right? I'd be really interested if anyone could tell me WHAT WENT WRONG.

I'm old enough to have read Smash Hits when it - bizarre thhogh this sounds - still seen as credible (albeit as a child - my brother's copy). And I remember the precise moment they lost it for us: when they started cosily refering to sub-Britney abomination Tiffany as 'Tiff'. It's was dreadful.

Anyway, what went wrong? Or what was *always* wrong?
