I'm really enjoying David Bowie's 66 - 68 stuff...

I got the Deram anthology for my birthday and some of its absolutely excellent. There's a few rather than bland, MOR ballads and there's the Laughing Gnome (which I actually sort of like but wouldn't want to listen to it very many times) but there's some really excellent, really interesting songs as well. Sort of Syd Barrett meets Scott Walker in a lot of places...

Much of it seems to be a rather bizarre attempt to be a family-friendly all-round entertainer whilst singing light-hearted songs about child murder, suspected paedophiles and people getting blown up in wars but I rather like it for all that.

Anyone else heard it/have opinions?
