The Last Shadow Puppets' album.

What are people's thoughts on it?

I've admittedly only really listened through once but so far I'm not altogether convinced. I think Alex Turner's a very talented guy and that he's one of the few frontmen big acts at the moment who's got the potential to do extremely interesting for a sustained period of time and the idea of him doing this string-based Scott Walker-esque album really appealed to me.

But my immediate reaction is that I don't think on the whole the songs are all that strong and I don't think he or Miles Kane are quite delivering what's required vocally. It's not so much a question of singing ability so much as that big epic string-based songs need big epic vocals and they're singing in quite an 'indie' way (as indeed they would tend to do) and their voices/the vocals/the melody tend to get lost underneath the strings...

It's a good experiment and one I hope they'll repeat more successfully in the future but I don't think they're 'there' yet...
