In a few weeks a ridiculous ceremony "celebrating" Cornish music will take place, awarding plastic transparent trophies to the most plastic, transparent bands in the county, completely ignoring anything bordering on the creative or vanguard. Down here, everyone involved seems to think it's a great idea, and that it somehow promotes camaraderie...none of the bands involved seem to recognise the inherent backslapping and old boys club nature of the event - the nominees are selected by a "suitably motley crew of Cornish Music Industry individuals" (note the capitalisation...). I'm not saying this isn't the nature of most awards ceremonies, but I was wondering if there's anything similar where you live, and what the general response towards the awards is?
