Just saw the latest Sonic Youth gigs...

Wombat [Edit] [Delete] 18:24, 12 May '08

July 4 New York, NY Battery Park with the Feelies - Free Show -
August 4 Leucate (next to Perpignan), France Les Mediterraneennes Festival
August 5 Lokeren, Belgium Lokerse Feesten
August 7 Oslo, Norway Oya Festival
August 8 Goteborg, Sweden Way Out West Festival
August 9 St. Nazaire, France Les Escales Festival

They are playign all over Europe, all through the UK festival season, but not ONE appearance at ANY uk festival.

Instead we have Jay-Zeee, Duffy and the fucking Feeling.

What is WRONG with this country's music scene? How can we miss out on having a seminal band like Sonic Youth play here in favour of our own-brand corporate crap.

I can't help but think of Marks and Spencer's cola. Wait, stay with me here...everytime I go in there, and want to buy a Coke, I have to settle for this piss-poor alternative. Is that what festivals are like in the UK, or am I being over-dramatic?

Do our corporations's marketing depts have such a strangle-hold on this island's music scene, that we are having to put up with sub-standard acts at our festies instead of proper, rocking, legendary bands like Sonic Youth?
