are there already lots of existing bands doing exactly that kind of thing who suddenly get signed/exposed or do lots of bands form or just alter their sound to fit in with what is made fashionable by a couple of successful acts? Or is it (probably) a combination of the two?

I don't go to enough gigs so I'd be interested to know if you have noticed bands changing their music to fit in with what is perceived as fashionable at the moment?
