Locals at festivals

simon_t [Edit] [Delete] 19:06, 3 July '08

What percentage of people at festivals set in or near cities or large towns outside Greater London are local, do you think? I got to wondering this after reading the festival cancellation thread, because as schadenfreude-tastic as it is when these "Foals! And Supergrass! And the Happy Mondays! And you'll believe a black man can play the white man's folk-pop while wearing a silly hat!" festivals go down the tubes, I do wonder whether there's a core of people going along for the novelty and ease of having an event with big names nearby who now know they won't be seeing those big names again round their way, and how big that core is. If that doesn't make sense, consider that living near Summer Sundae as I do, I know full well that having pulled out late on last year the Hold Steady will not have a make-up visit to Leicester pencilled in any time soon.
