Ok according to Wikipedia there are 243 countries in the world which are-
193 de jure sovereign states
6 de-facto independent states
2 entities recognized by many countries but not de-facto independent
37 inhabited dependent territories
4 special regions by international treaty or agreement
1 UN protectorate inside the de jure territory of a sovereign state
