How do people want bands to make a living?

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 11:26, 5 August '08

This is a genuine question I'm interested by, rather than me having a go at anyone. I'm just interested because the following opinions frequently come up:

a) Many people want to download music for free rather than buy it.

b) Many people want gig tickets to be cheaper than they are.

c) Many people find it a betrayal or a sell-out if someone sells their music to an advert.

d) Many people find it a cheap cash-in if bands sell excessive merchandising.

e) People are unhappy if a band they like doesn't tour near them (thereby implying they must want bands to have time free to tour and therefore evidently not have full-time jobs to fund their artistic inclinations.

So, returning to my original question, how do people want bands to make a living?
