This month's OMM Magazine

jarock87 [Edit] [Delete] 21:27, 10 August '08

Has anyone read this? Has a feature about who earns what in the music industry. It's a pretty ridiculous piece, a passing mention to the fact that the entire industry's in transition but then assuring us that there's still cash galore to be made from journalism and being in a band. Some figures include (from interviewing unnamed band members/tour managers/drug dealer (!?) etc.

website editor: 100,000 readers make you £30,000 per annum, £15000 after costs.
band member: £200-£500 per day depending on size and success of band (surely a gross overestimation?)
music plugger: £5-6000 per month.
music journalist: £15000(editorial assistant)-£70k (senior editor)

There's others as well, I'd be pretty interested in hearing folks views on some of these figures, is this OMM blatantly still focusing on the high end of the market and ignoring those bands touring relentlessy around converted public toilets or are some of these figures accurate? Also, who reckons the 'band member' is in fact The Automatic's Paul Mullins ("I joined a well-known rock band four months ago, on keyboards and backing vocals)
