Advice re having "guest artists" (who are signed to record labels) on albums

bingo_little [Edit] [Delete] 13:47, 5 January '09

Hello and greetings.

I was hoping anyone "in the know" might be able to offer me a small amount of advice on something. What it is this:

I'm the bass player in a small band recording our debut album for a small bedroom label that I run myself. Through some means or other our guitarist has managed to persuade a guest vocalist to sing on one of our songs. The guest vocalist is keen to do this and it looks like this will reasonably happen.

The only issue is that said vocalist happens to be in a band that recently signed to an major label offshoot and are releasing their own debut album at some point in 2009. Does anyone know how to agree ta guest appearance with the label in contractual terms/how difficult it is/whether we'd have to pay them anything or how these things work?

Cheers.
