Active bands/artists that don't play live

WhiteLightWhiteCity [Edit] [Delete] 10:16, 21 January '09

I've been thinking about musicians that are, at least to some extent, actively recording and releasing music (even if not all that frequently) that don't perform concerts at all, particularly more acclaimed or well known artists.

For example, Kate Bush (I believe) only undertook about one tour before abandoning live performance altogether. Scott Walker doesn't perform any of his intricately fascinating material from recent decades (though of course once was a regular performer). Jandek took dozens of albums before stepping on a stage.

I'm trying to think of some more popular artists who do this (or even others at similar levels). Other suggestions? What influence, if any, do you think it has on your relationship to the recorded works?
