Promoter woes

stumbeleine04 [Edit] [Delete] 09:27, 3 February '09

Just wondering what people make of this.... my band got a message from a promoter today about doing some gigs with them and the obligatory "How many people can you bring?". They are based in the Midlands where we live (but a fair few miles away). I was reading about "what they do" on their myspace. I'm a bit at a loss what it's all about, as far as i can tell, you lug your gear all the way to the venue, YOU sell your friends tickets then YOU give THEM the money? They talk about exposure but how much exposure are you going to get playing to your own friends?

Any advice or similar stories?
PS the myspace for that promoter is: www.myspace.com/lostboyspromotions
