Music as therapy

Rose-Kitten [Edit] [Delete] 16:04, 3 February '09

so yeah, I've been listening to Radio 4 this afternoon and the subject of manic depression and dementia has cropped up (as it would) with subject matter varying from Schuburt's dementia through to music as therapy with people who suffer from alzheimers. Some of the therapists spoke of those elderly who really 'came back' after hearing specific music - mostly old war time songs which I cannot profess to know the names of right now.

But it got me thinking about music and if this works (which I believe it does), what sort of music are we going to be 'brought back by'?? And, more importantly, will this be subculture specific? The NHS better start mapping this out.

What do you think you could be 'brought back by' if you suffered from alzheimers?
