Why do we hate the Fleet Foxes?

nonameno5 [Edit] [Delete] 01:23, 12 February '09

Why do we think there has there been such a backlash against the Fleet Foxes debut album?

I thought it was a breathe of fresh air when it came out. The EP was stunning. The band were truly perfect at ULU. The album sold fantastically well, MOJO and Uncut creamed themselves and the band looked set to be warmly welcomed on their next visit to the UK.

However by the time of their second coming the UK backlash against the Fleet Foxes has really set a cold grip around their bearded throats.

Why do we hate them?

I'll offer some suggestions but really I'm quite confused about it and I'd like to see some opinions.

Is the hatred due to:

1. The Fleet Foxes actually being too American for a British audience upon closer inspection.

2. Simon Raymonde's desperately shameless attempt to cash in anyway possible on a band that he did nothing break. ie: Reaslising that their most "Commercial" song should have been on the album and re-releasing the album with an extra CD just so that they can play Mykonos on the painful TV advert in order to shift more copies. (I hear from quite reliable sources that they are going to re-release the album again but this time with a live CD. Bella Union must really be in the shit. Where is Midlake's new album by the way?)

2. The fact that the album has little depth and variation past the the third listen, boring instrumentals, meaningless pastoral lyrics and repetitive harmonies.

3. The fact that toothless simpletons are now saying that the Fleet Foxes are their favourite new band?

Are we just falling for the classic case of disliking a band we once liked now that people who don't really know anything about the art of music really like them?

What say we?
