Recommendations for a beat maker gizmo thing?

andrewsn00 [Edit] [Delete] 14:12, 27 February '09

Hey,

I'm looking to get a hardware thingy with which I can use to help create beats for electronic music.

I know hip hop dudes use MPC's.
'Dance' (Trance, house etc) dudes use Electribes.
AColl loop dudes use Roland SP series stuff.

Anyone have a suggestion what'd suit modern indie dancey genrey stuff.

That's a horrible term, but I mean to suggest I'm talking electro-Radiohead, CCastles, Metronomy, High Places, Justice not Trance, house, hip hop - if that at least points people in the direction!

I'm not a big software dude, have no clue about Reason or Reaktor or whatever, but I do plan on getting to know one of them, prob Ableton as it seems so ubiquitous at least there's tutorials etc out there.

I guess one might get a controller to use with such a program, like a Khaos pad or equivalent? I also see NI have their new Maschine which looks pretty sweet - like a software integrated MPC working within Ableton, but it's pretty new so no reviews as of yet (plus costs a shit load).

Can anyone push me in the right direction please?

Cheers!,
A
