Rough Trade night on BBC4 tonight

Do It Yourself: The Story of Rough Trade Records- 9pm

In the summer of 1976, recent Cambridge graduate Geoff Travis opened a record store just off Ladbroke Grove in west London with money borrowed from his father. This programme reveals how the shop offering a communal atmosphere and an alternative to mainstream music provided the foundations for the famous independent label that has represented acts including the Smiths, the Libertines, Pulp and the Strokes.

Rough Trade at the BBC

A compilation of studio performances by bands who have recorded on the ground-breaking indie label from the early 1980s to the present, including Weekend, the Smiths, Robert Wyatt, Violent Femmes, Pulp and Antony & the Johnsons.
