There's a signed band in my home town (signed to Sony) who have only gigged three times here since they formed two years ago.

I always had the perception that gaining a strong local following was fairly important to both bands themselves and also to the agents/labels. Otherwise, it just feels like a test-tube music project and a little too cold for comfort.

Does this happen anywhere else?
