Future of the Music Industry

NEW_EARS [Edit] [Delete] 16:14, 3 April '09

Ol' frog face Andrew Lloyd Webber has been moaning to the law/policy makers about the downward spiral of the music industry.

I think, like him, we are on the brink of a tipping point where something drastic needs to happen or the industry will eventually be in freefall.

I'm aware that this topic has probably been discussed at length before, but I'm interested in what the board's views are with regard to the future. The obvious problem is that 95% of downloaded music is done for free/illegally and the average guy on the street sees the value of an mp3 as nothing and that there is nothing wrong with downloading it for free.

Something's got to change, but I can't see how ISPs will crack down on their best customers...perhaps music tracks will have to be available for 20p rather than 79p...but will this be enough for the industry to make money? It's more than zero I suppose...I don't know...what do you guys think?
