These things used to be important to me when I was growing up. Mustaine, Hammett or Hendrix seemed to be the majority favourites amongst our little group. Oh, along with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani of course. Oh, hacklion days.
Anyway, I guess I'm still living in the past a bit as I reckon my favourites are Stephen Malkmus and J Mascis.
