Lost classics

Jiggy [Edit] [Delete] 05:04, 21 April '09

If you could recommend one "lost classic" or "hidden gem" album to recommend to the DiS community, what would it be?

By "lost classic", I'm talking about an album that:

- Went completely under the radar of critics and the general public.
- Didn't have much commercial success.
- May have a small "cult" following, but would generally not be known by the majority of the music-listening public.

My vote is for Cold fact, the 1970 debut solo album by Detroit singer songwriter Sixto Rodriguez.

His voice would best be described as a cross between Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and Leonard Cohen. His lyrics are quite political and some are of their time, but the songwriting is magnificent and the instrumentation is superb. Highly recommended to anyone who likes some of the classic singer-songwriter albums from the late 60s and early 70s.
