I really think Steve Lawler could be my favourite DJ...

Axis [Edit] [Delete] 02:30, 17 May '09

So i've seen him a couple of times, both great, one was totally unexpected and ended up missing almost everything else whilst loving 3 hours of house tunes. He plays some really housey, almost clappy tracks but they always flow in and out of some deep basslines and signature techno beats.

The guy's been around for years (Cream resident 2000) and unlike others who've really lost the plot (see sasha) or reinvented their styles he's remained pretty consistent (Space resident summer 09).

His essential mix this week for Radio 1 is immense, starting with an obligatory (for these type of mixes) spoken parody/film quote/...etc, then rolling into some pretty familiar tracks, followed up by some jazzy breaks and onto some heavy techno beasts in an underworld (avec D.Emerson) vein.

essential mix (available for the week):

...if only he hadn't turned his back on vinyl.
