Anticon's SJ ESau - Edinburgh - Friday 12th June

harlequinade [Edit] [Delete] 17:53, 5 June '09

Bit of a late notice this one, but should be a sweet lil’ night:

Legendary label for the advancement of hip-hop Anticon’s first British signing SJ Esau will be playing Henry’s Cellar Bar on Friday 12th June.
7.30 - £6 (£5 if reserved in advance by emailing axis AT mrw44.co.uk)

After rapping his way to second place in the DMC championships by the age of 12, SJ Esau now plays an eccentrically wonderful collage of sounds, songs and textures, as beautiful and soothing as they are perplexing and chaotic. A blend of Vonnegut, De La Soul and Pavement, he has proved a worthy addition to the Anticon rooster and a bold step in their branching out to the UK.

Support comes from the improvising OUT-hop local quartet of:
Paul Keene (Dyad, Kresch) - piano, Fender Rhodes, hair
Chris Ross (Dyad) - drums
Harlequinade (Chemical Poets, Sileni) - vocals, electronics
Aliased Neuron (Diva Abrasiva, Grind Sight Open Eye) - guitar, trumpet, no-input mixing desk
Drawing upon free jazz, slam poetry, nuclear-noise-tango and everything in between, this should be an absolute blast not to be missed.
Does it need a name? Hmmm: Bugs Bunny and The Seven Types of Ambiguity? The Gospel According to Voynich and His Books? Samson’s Barber?
Och, just forget it……regardless of silly, made-up band names, this will be an amazing night….
