So I know nothing about 'gear' really, I do know my favourite guitar sound is the Modern Lovers/Velvet Underground sound where it's not clean but it's not distorted but it's not too fat and ridiculous.

I don't really know how one gets this sound, but I believe a good compressor would help me (plus I'm rubbish about playing at the same volume heh).

So can someone please recommend a Compressor effects pedal (no rack stuff please) that I can check out. Something, as I said, that might help me towards the above sound aims.
