Watching Live gigs on TV

manbearpig [Edit] [Delete] 11:39, 30 June '09

do you think you can judge a live performance by watching it on TV? obviously this stems from the Glastonbury threads, lot of people making assertions about the quality of performances despite not being there...
i think it's way off the mark, there's simply no comparison between watching on TV and being there, and it's not just because of the 'vibe' or anything like that...it's as much to do with the bass assaulting your body, or the momentum exchanged between band and audience, or feeling the noise all around you.. that's not very eloquent but you know what i'm getting at.
anyway yeah, you can get some idea of the quality of performance or the vibe from TV, but enough to make definitive, sweeping judgements? na...

what do you think?
