journalist nostalgia

i guess this is a double question. i read this autobiography of this guy who was an nme writer in the early 90s, he retired to live in kings heath in birmingham, i wish i could remember his name. it was an aces book.

i got into music when swells and everett true were like The Gospel. swells fell off my radar till he started whining about lc! and everett true is turning into some bizarre alan partridge mockery version of himself.

and since i had such internetfun tracking down (clicking on the links people posted of) all the videogame mag journos and finding they were mostly still as witty/passionate, can anyone name any awesome nme/mm writers of like, the post britpop 90s that are still awesome today and what they're doing? my memories so bad for stuff like names, i cant even remember if its john or jon earls..

apparently brett anderson used to keep a little book of which journo wrote for which mag and what bands they liked/hated. if anyone could find that then that'd be good too.
