Editing, compressing and distorting completed albums to maximise your own enjoyment.

Miikka [Edit] [Delete] 08:28, 23 July '09

a while back I was compiling some simple mixtapes on Cubase, and while cutting up and compressing songs I noticed I really really enjoyed an M83 song distorted to shit. So I took all the M83 records, recompressed the hell out of them, and been listening to them alot. In the same process I deleted all of the songs I didn't really like. For me, they are now better albums.

When i have some time, I'm going to edit the new Gallows album into nine 2:30 lasting bursts. I like the singer and they've got good stuff, but every single song is way too long and repetitive and some of the chugga-chugga riffs are horrible. So I'm going to try to cut stuff out and still make it work. also, slow songs, out the door! It has potential to become a great album in my hands, hahaaa!

I've bought all the albums and not distributing the new versions anywhere.

Has anyone ever done stuff like this? Do you think I have the right to do it? Do you think Im disrespecting the art, or do I have the right to fuck around with it? I can just imagine the M83 guy searching for the right kind of compression for days and days and then...
