Field Day 2009 - how was it for you?

marfamac [Edit] [Delete] 02:06, 2 August '09

Too bad about the rain in the middle but all round I thought they had it about right this year.
Wild Beasts, Santigold, Mogwai all great. Toumani Diabate a brilliant way to end the day. Really varied line-up that paid off - meaning it didn't feel like about 8 hours of the same old stuff.
Other highlights: Rough Trade ponchos, the man with 36 clothes pegs all over his face (he must have won that challenge surely), Rusko playing early-mid '80s reggae in the Bloggers tent as it threw it down ( and 'Ghost Town'), decent real ale with hardly any bar queues.
My disappointments: Juana Molina battling the P.A. system and her monitors. Probably her worst gig experience ever. Skream being kept late and then cut stupidly short. That half hour of nightmare rain, though hardly anyone's fault.
But ...
THE THING. 30 minutes of jaw-dropping, genuinely breathtaking, jazz punk brilliance. Awesome from start to finish. An amazing booking that truly paid off. A highlight not just of the day but for live music this year.
Quite a good day out all told.
