JESU

Normally I don't really go in for the whole post-rock/metal what with nearly all of it sounding like pale generic rip-offs of only maybe two or three decent bands. Surely only hardcore bands who never got over the mid-80s are more samey sounding than this crowd. But these Jesu and Conquer albums feel like they've got real depth and substance to them, there's really something to get into. Fragile, beautiful and sad, yet somehow maintaining an dangerous crushing edge and some really uplifting peaks, not to mention that the songs just sound plain brilliant.
DiS said that they should have been used to accompany BBC nature documentaries instead of Sigur Ros. Considering how much more soulful this sounds than Takk those would've some huge, aching and inspiring documentaries.*

I know I'm a bit of a late comer to the party so after Jesu and Conqueror where should I head next with the eps and splits?
And what are they like live? I managed to see Godflesh before they split and I can imagine on the right day that Jesu could be even more intense, in their own way.

*not that they weren't incredible anyway, and i still like sigur ros even if takk didn't have the same feel as the others.
