Moritz Von Oswald Trio-Vertical Ascent. Go get it. Right now.

Luis_Carruthers [Edit] [Delete] 18:38, 16 August '09

This is a truly singular record that's sure to go pretty well ignored by the populace. This music is something I've never heard before, a clear cut techno record that demonstrates the depth of musical interplay of a jazz group. If I had to pick a favorite track, I'd probably go with the tangible sense of dread conjured on Pattern 2, it's dark and mysterious with no real sense of resolution. It's like a mystery that gets deeper and more complex but is never solved, until it is swallowed by the rhythmic chaos and shifting synths of Pattern 3. Truly compelling and complex, it flies in the face of every trend in electronic music right now. I think there was a thread about this before, but since there have been like fifty threads for Bloc Party and Patrick Wolf recently, I wanted to increase the thread count of someone actually good. So who's having their mind blown by this record?
