The Stone Roses

TheWza [Edit] [Delete] 15:17, 1 September '09

Just been digging about, having a read of The Quietus.

I wanna flag up a couple of articles that were written because of the re-release of that bloated 20th anniversary boxset.

Review: http://thequietus.com/articles/02535-the-stone-roses-the-stone-roses-reissue-album-review

Response: http://thequietus.com/articles/02573-from-atlanta-georgia-to-longsight-manchester-the-stone-roses-weren-t-what-you-thought-they-were

One of the main points that the two articles centre on is how much mythology surrounds it, and them.

So I'm interested to hear what folk think of The Stone Roses' s/t debut album as an album of music. Not so much those that are quite familiar with it from the early nineties, more so those for whom The Stone Roses' debut does not register.

It'd be interesting to hear fresh thoughts on an album that has been a perennial high-flier in the 'best ever' lists, but is now slipping firmly into the 'history' category rather than being in the 'recent past'.

Or, to put it more succinctly: it'll be Radio 2 fodder before we know it.
