hey, do you remember m2? (MTV2 in the before time)

douchebag [Edit] [Delete] 02:35, 3 September '09

when i look back at the things that shaped my musical taste, i can't help but put a lot of emphasis on the channel once known as m2. At some point around the turn of the century it was all i watched, and boy was it good.. It introduced me to so many bands i love, introduced me to things i wasn't hearing elsewhere, new and exciting sounds that seemed totally alien and sometimes completely unlistenable. The viewer chosen hours, where you had the whim of one person satisfied for an entire segment were absolutely fascinating. The artist hours were just as good.. i remember Muse's one in particular, where i was opened up to Captain Beefheart and Primus. I mean, call me a doddery old fuck but you just don't get this sort of thing any more.

Maybe i'm reminiscing with rose tinted specs firmly in place, but there was something very different and exciting about the channel (even though it was prone to repetition). But you hear nothing about it any more. Don't think i've ever seen anybody on this website mention it, a cursory google search provides nothing but scraps.. it's as if it never even existed. Some people were raised by John Peel, some were raised by Steve "Sodding" Lamacq. I was a child of m2, and now is the time to pour a 40 in its honour
