David Holmes - Why is it seemingly frowned on to like him?

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 14:58, 9 September '09

I really rate the guy. But it feels like everyone I know is surprised that I buy his stuff. And I don't get it?

Maybe because he's done Hollywood scores they see him as throwaway mainstream junk, but I genuinely think he's a great artist.

He doesn't really mix his compilations, but the stuff he finds is amazing. I read somewhere that he went out and spent 90% of the cash he got for the Ocean's Eleven OST on records that very afternoon.

The 'Essential Mix' and 'Come get it...' mix CD's are both awesome.

And then there's his solo albums. 'Let's get killed' is a wonderful soundtrack to a thriving urban environment, 'Bow down to the exit sign' is a superb mash up of styles from punk to raw hip hop and 70's funk and his latest work was a beautifully subtle work.

Sure, none of his stuff is overly forward looking, but I equally don't understand why it seems like he's frowned on? The music press always lumps in him with all those easy-listening jazz background CD makers too like Zero 7, which angers me.

So... David Holmes. Deserves more love in my book.
