Best British rock bands of the last 15 or so years

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 13:14, 11 September '09

I was chatting to silverfoxqpr at the Kong / FOTL gig last night, lamenting why British rock bands get so cruelly overlooked here yet are relatively successful overseas. Our indie acts are embraced, as are our urban stars, but rock bands seem 'uncool' if they're from the UK and aren't overly successful?

And we got thinking about great rock bands the UK has produced in the last decade or so who deserved more love.

Here's a few we thought of:

Sixbyseven - Their first 3 albums are immense. One of the best rock bands in the world for a 6 year period, let alone just the UK.

Ikara Colt - A great band, two awesome and totally different records. Their 100 Club gig won 'Hottest concert ever' award:

Urusei Yatsura - A brilliant Scottish band who were the perfect mix of lo-fi and rock;

KaitO - A noisy bunch of bastards from Norwich who deserved far more success. I adored both their records and am convinced from what I heard of their third that they were destined to release a blinder. Shame it never surfaced:

mclusky - I expect most of you know about these guys already. But they were great (even though I prefer FOTL personally), combining vitriolic humour with energy and pixies-esque riffs:

Prolapse - A brilliant mix of styles and influences came together to form this near perfect band. All of their albums were critically adored and they were one of the best live bands around:
