Music Social More…

"Last year, we bullshitted you guys. 'There's no such thing as a bad year for music!' was just rhetoric that, frankly, betrayed our optimism. The more we look back on it, 2001 sucked."

SCROTUM [Edit] [Delete] 16:26, 12 October '09

This is the intro to P4K's best of 2002 list.

So why was 2001 the most represented year on their end of decade countdown, and also accounted for four albums in the top 10?

I find it odd that P2K's list is overwhelmingly focused on 2000 & 2001. Are they cautious of rushing evaluation of more recent records and thus not putting them in the list (only THREE from 2009 got in the whole top 200)? Have Pitchfork actually become more critical and harsh in later years (9.8 for Modest Mouse, 10.0 for both Wilco and ...Trail Of Dead in 2001/2) or, moreover, has there been a notable drop-off in quality generally in music?

I was only eight when the 00s began. Were the first few years really the strongest?
