Album disappointments

Podge9 [Edit] [Delete] 16:42, 12 September '05
I don't get this very often cos I tend to choose my album purchases pretty well.

Today I bought the new Elbow, Sigur Ros and Reuben albums.

Elbow is good, probably the weakest of their three albums but it's got some lovely tracks and some great Guy Garvey lyrics.

Reuben - first listen left me really underwhelmed. The first 6 feel like fillers to be honest. The album picks up when it gets to Blamethrower. Alpha Signal Three and Return of the Jedi are highly good too but overall a definite let down after the awesome Racecar is Racecar Backwards.

Sigur Ros - Oh dear. I may even take this back to the shop. I've NEVER done that before. The mix is horrible. The vocals are great on previous releases, all hushed and effective. Why have they thought it's a good idea to put them virtually top in the mix? It all feels too happy and twee. Hoppipolla sounds like a Eurovision entry.

I am filled with disappointment.
