An indiepop mix CD spectacular ft. The Lovely Eggs, The School, MJ Hibbett in London

natalieshaw [Edit] [Delete] 18:02, 16 October '09

Pic 'n' Mixx, my delightful clubnight, is launching on Friday October 30 at the Buffalo Bar. Two weeks' time! If you like indiepop and twee-type fun, you'd frankly be a numpty to miss it.

You can buy your tickets from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/59398

Line-up is like this:

The Lovely Eggs www.myspace.com/thelovelyeggs

Everett True said this about them: "It’s like listening to The Vaselines being interpreted by The Bobby McGee's interpreting Moldy Peaches while severely under the influence of snakebite. It’s like being exposed to five generations of art students pretending they’re still seven years old and that’s it’s still really amusing to say ‘poo’. It’s like a musical enema. It’s like hearing Richard Brautigan being interpreted by the web 2.0 generation whose only exposure to TV is Arctic Boosh and that stupid wee intro with the lo-res birds that used to introduce Big Brother."

The School www.myspace.com/theschoolband

Pitchfork said this about them: "a swaying, winsome tune with some of the Phil Spector lushness of Lucky Soul, the Belle & Sebastian-style modesty of Camera Obscura, and the airy, girl-group vocals of both"

MJ HIBBETT (solo set) www.myspace.com/mjhibbett

I said this about him: "He reminds me of Half Man Half Biscuit, while others have said he's "a middle aged man on a ukulele" and "a lot of fun, all geeky references and wry humour". Super-current, super-sharp and massive fun all round, listen to snippet of genius 'My Boss Was In An Indie Band Once' before you die or lead a lesser life."

GRAVE ARCHITECTS www.myspace.com/thegravearchitects

Listen to the NME, yo: "Folk-hop, like Eels doing Morrissey doing 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”

THE PERYLS www.myspace.com/theperyls

Per the Evening Standard: "creaky, sinister pop...dark, lyrical and enchanting"

And playing tunes 'til 4am is DJ Sean, who usually does Feeling Gloomy. Awesome, huh? OH YES.

I have mix CDs to give away lovingly made by the likes of Everett True, Los Campesinos!, Frightened Rabbit, The Wave Pictures, Xfm's John Kennedy, Darren Hayman, Internet Forever, Art Brut, The Clientele, Pocketbooks, Dananananaykroyd, Johnny Foreigner, Camera Obscura, Luis from Elefant Records, *ahem* me, AND LOADS MORE. In order to take a lucky dip, all you have to do is bring your own mix CD. Simple!

I'm bringing the fun back in, and you can be a part of it for a mere £5 in advance. Diarise it now, congratulate me on it all and mostly, come along and say hi.
