Punch Drunk: Unearthed

dis-integration [Edit] [Delete] 20:37, 2 November '09

Amazing! Peverelist has just announced the first release from Punch Drunk's sister label Unearthed, promising to revive 'classic Bristol soundsystem anthems of yesteryear'. And the first release is Smith & Mighty's Bass Is Maternal/U Dub!

Such an amazing tune to re-release on vinyl - for anyone unaware, Smith & Mighty were a part of the Bristol scene that fused together the local reggae and dub soundsystem culture with hip-hop elements and a restless punk energy. They were contemporaries of early Massive Attack and pretty much came to define the Bristol sound that's still going on today. Rob Smith releases stuff as RSD on Punch Drunk and Tectonic these days, and it's amazing to listen to the old material from the late eighties and early nineties and hear how much it pre-empted a lot of modern electronic music.

I know that sounds like a press release or something, but seriously, awesome.
