Authenticity in the Noughties vs Gaga

sean [Edit] [Delete] 12:24, 29 November '09

My latest Sunday Times column from today's Culture: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/article6931759.ece

Admittedly the word limit, limits my ability to expand and fully argue the case but be curious what people think authenticity means today? What or who do you need to be true to? If you're going to 'sell out' does it have to be so ridiculously blatant people accept it? Is there something more fake about rich-kids-slumming-it like Vampire Weekend than there is about Gaga being a ridiculous popstar?
