A question for ATP organisers

Paperback [Edit] [Delete] 21:05, 9 December '09

Hello.

Got a question (not a rant)... Just a genuine thing I'd like to know the answer to... Feel free to totally correct me and make me look a bit stupid if necessary!

Having just had a (fairly) awesome time at the MBV ATP this weekend, I'm kind of out of pocket to be spending money on gigs now. It's totally of my own doing. I accept it. Those Butlins beers don't buy themselves etc...

However, being a pretty big Pavement/Malkmus fan, I suddenly found myself dead keen to go see the Jicks at Camden Electric Ballroom tonight. But on looking at tickets, found they're £20-25 a go after booking fees, which was kind of out of my price bracket. So far, so unamazing. People get skint. People miss gigs. Not really a big deal.

But looking at a few other gigs coming up at the same venue, Adam Green £12.50, Modest Mouse £17.50, Mark Lanegan's Soulsavers £14, Spoon £16.50, The Joy Formidable £9 etc... I just wondered how ATP came to the decision on the £25 Malkmus price? Seems a bit steep for an organisation so vocal about fan interaction and the indie spirit.

Admittedly there's also gigs listed for bands like Public Image Ltd selling for like £39.50... But quite frankly that's fucking outrageous and John Lydon can completely do one. They only had one song anyway.

So yeah. Not wishing to open the whole has ATP sold out debate again, because that's a different conversation entirely. Plus I had a pretty good time on the weekend. No complaints really.

But can someone answer my question?

Cheers.
