DiS' Song of the Day #4: FRIGHTENED RABBIT 'Swim Until You Can't See Land'

sean [Edit] [Delete] 15:38, 7 January '10

'Swim Until You Can't See Land' by Frightened Rabbit

There are few British acts right now that show as much as promise as Frightened Rabbit, not that any 'new' music tip lists would suggest as much as they're not a brand-spanking embryonic band. But, and this is rather a big BUT, they are, should the stars align, poised for much-much bigger and better things in 2010. And, by 'promise' I don't mean they'll matter for a few spring weeks but - and I say this as an honest prediction, rather than hyperbole - to matter 30 years from now when we'll be listening to music by eating salt 'n' vinegar microchips. They have already found hardcore fans amongst pockets of the DiS readership but even the US media have been quicker to catch on to their majestic anthemics and poetic-celtic storytelling than most Brits. Tracks from their previous long-player Midnight Organ Fight were all over hit TV show Grey's Anatomy and they reached the number 2 in the DiS '08 albums of the year but few tracks from that have the vitamin D factor of this sun'n'whisky-sour-kissed bliss.

Fellow fans of The Shins and The National who haven't got The Winter Of Mixed Drinks (Fat Cat) scribbled in their diary on March 1st, do so now because if this song and a few others I heard live at DiS' 9th Birthday party are anything to go by, we're in for a treat.

Oh and they're touring in March tickets available via http://www.crowdsurge.com/frightenedrabbit
